What counts toward a limit.

Every request counts, whether it runs on your own API key, a connected ChatGPT or Claude account, or a Shard-hosted model. You’re stopped when you reach the daily or the monthly limit, whichever comes first.

Limits and quotas in the docs

A message
Each request Shard sends to the model. One question can use several: every step where Shard uses tools and then continues is one.
Agents
Every request an agent makes counts as one message.
Compaction
Each automatic or manual compaction of a long chat counts as one message.
A web lookup
A web search or a page read. Lookups in the official Roblox docs don’t count toward this limit.
Guests
Counted per network, not per computer. Signed-in users are counted per account.
Where to see it
The Chat sidebar shows your message limit. Settings, then Account, shows the daily and the monthly bars.

Who pays for the AI?

That depends on how you connect a model, not on your Shard plan.

Models and providers

Your own key
You pay the provider directly, at their normal rates, on your own provider account.
Connected account
Uses your ChatGPT or Claude plan and its limits. Shard doesn’t charge credits for it.
Shard-hosted
Paid in credits, per token. Credits can’t be bought yet, and prices are still being set.

The beta is open now.

You can try Shard as a guest with your own API key. You don’t need a Shard account for that.
